As everyone knows by now, the wrestling world was shaken late last month by news of the tragic passing of the legendary Hulk Hogan. Just as the former WWE star and worldwide phenomenon was getting set to launch his own wrestling promotion, Real American Freestyle, on the 30th of this month, Hogan succumbed to a heart attack and passed away. Given he was only 71 years old and beginning a new journey with wrestling, the tragedy has impacted many greatly, not to mention the state of Florida, of which Hogan was a resident.
In an Instagram post, Nick Hogan—Hulk Hogan’s son and a TV personality that many will recognize from his days on the Hogan Knows Best show—shared the memorandum issued by Florida governor Ron Desantis in honor of the late wrestler. The memorandum reads, “On Thursday, July 24th, 2025, Florida resident and legendary professional wrestler Terry Bollea, better known as Hulk Hogan, passed away.” The memorandum then goes on to summarize some of Hogan’s life work and time in Florida, with Desantis adding, “He was a true Floridian through and through.” In honor of that, the governor went on to make a special announcement, one befitting of any Florida legend.
“To commemorate his life and legacy, I hereby declare August 1st, 2025, as “Hulk Hogan Day in Florida.”” The governor then added the directives for the state from here on out, saying that all “The flags of the United States and the State of Florida [are] to be flown at half-staff at the State Capital in Tallahassee, Florida and at all local and state buildings, installations, and grounds throughout Pinellas County from sunrise to sunset on Friday, August 1st, 2025.” Given not every celebrity gets a day named after them, this is indeed a big honor, and it is getting its due appreciation from Hulk Hogan fans online!

“So freaking cool, man!” wrote fellow wrestler Lexis King, also known as Brian Zachary Pillman, who made the biggest impact in the world of wrestling entertainment during his stint in All Elite Wrestling from 2019 to 2023.
