Uzbekistan’s rising MMA fighter, Bogdan Guskov, recently recalled the time, more than a decade ago, when he worked as a security guard in a bar in Moscow. And guess what? The 33-year-old once saw Jon Jones and Alexander Gustafsson make their way to the bar he worked in. But the whole night was just ‘Bones’ partying like there was no tomorrow, as Guskov remembers that night vividly.

So, the story is about the time before UFC 165, when Jon Jones and Alexander Gustafsson fought for the first time in their UFC careers, which was ‘Bones’s toughest fight ever. Bogdan Guskov revealed that the duo was there in Russia to promote their fight, but the way Jones and Gustafsson acted in the club was vastly different. Let’s take a look at that front.

UFC fighter recalls Jon Jones partying in Moscow until the morning

Jon Jones is known for partying a lot, especially in his early days as a UFC fighter. He even revealed once that he had defeated Daniel Cormier after a weekend of taking certain substances, and it’s not PEDs. But the story was different for Alexander Gustafsson, as Bogdan Guskov claims the Swedish star left before Jones started partying. “I see Gustafsson there. It’s 9.30. Then he leaves at 11.30. That’s it. He got ready and left. And Jon Jones at 5 AM just on the bar counter,” the Uzbek fighter told Ushatayka.

That image is vintage Jones. Carefree, larger than life, and reckless at the same time. Gustafsson’s early exit mirrors the focus and conditioning that made him the toughest puzzle of Jones’ career. When UFC 165 came around, those contrasting choices seemed to manifest inside the cage: Gustafsson’s discipline nearly dethroned the champion, while Jones had to dig deeper than ever to keep his belt.

After the Swedish UFC legend left the club in Moscow, Jon Jones continued to enjoy his time there. Guskov revealed that he was able to take a picture with ‘Bones’, as he’d been a fan of the former UFC champion. Then, he revealed how Jones would continue to keep drinking anything he could get his hands on at the bar, as his party did not end even when the sun rose in the morning. “He’s there, I don’t know. He’s so crazy. He’s just about completely crazy. I have a photo there. We took a picture with him. It was not even the end of the party. It was the middle of the party,” Guskov further stated.

However, things were starting to get out of control, as Jon Jones started wrestling with fellow UFC legend Frank Mir. Seeing two heavyweights scrapping with each other, Bogdan Guskov and the other security guards were afraid to intervene, given that they were genuinely two of the toughest UFC fighters ever. However, it was later revealed that the scrap was just a joke between Jones and Mir, even though blood was spilled.

“I’m standing here basically, and in front of me, imagine, under my feet, Jon Jones and Frank Mir are wrestling… I’m sitting on them, looking. Bam! One is just elbowing the other… He [Jones] gives it to him, and he has blood. And I’m like, ‘Go and separate them.’ In the club, this kind of activity is not welcomed, right?” Guskov added. “But there was precisely this kind of a fight party, and everyone somehow understood it all that they were just playing, sparring.”

What’s your perspective on:

Did Jon Jones' partying lifestyle cost him the edge against Gustafsson in their epic UFC 165 battle?

Have an interesting take?

Well, most people would argue that Jon Jones should have done the same thing Alexander Gustafsson did and get out of the club to prepare for his fight. Well, he almost lost when they fought, and that fight still remains the toughest one ‘Bones’ had in his career. Meanwhile, Jones once revealed that some people paid him once to attend a party. Let’s take a look at that front.

Jones got paid to party

Last year, Jon Jones revealed that money has never been an issue in his whole life. Even Dana White promised him that while he’s fighting in the UFC, these issues will never come up. While he’s made good money in the UFC, Jones also revealed that he has another source for making money, and that’s by doing “silly things.” What are those? Well, one of those things involves his getting paid over six figures to attend a party for at least half an hour.

“It seems like the less I think about money the more it comes to me. It’s just falling in my hands these days, and I’m grateful for it,” Jon Jones told Alex Gonzalez. “I’m making really good money, doing really, really silly things. [I] show up to a party for half an hour for a hundred thousand dollars, sign a few items for a hundred thousand dollars. I barely leave my house for less than a hundred thousand dollars these days.”

Money is not an issue, then why is Jon Jones not fighting Tom Aspinall? Well, we may never find that out, but we might just see Jones fighting Aspinall soon. His party days may not be over, but ‘Bones’ insists that he’s back in the testing pool and is looking to make his way onto the UFC White House card. What do you think about that?
