You’re not gonna believe this one. After nearly a month of outrage, speculation, and silence from the authorities, the LAPD has finally moved in. Yes, Raja Jackson, the 25-year-old son of UFC legend Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, is behind bars.
This comes after one of the wildest and ugliest incidents we’ve seen in combat sports cross over. What was supposed to be a scripted wrestling show in Los Angeles turned into something very, very real when Raja stormed the ring and left wrestler Stuart “Syko Stu” Smith battered, bloodied, and hospitalized. For 26 days, fans were left asking the same question: Why on earth hasn’t he been arrested yet? Now we’ve got the answer, and it’s raising even more eyebrows.

Lawyer explains why LAPD’s investigation delayed Raja Jackson’s arrest for 26 days
Lawyer, former WWE star, motivational speaker, and actor David Otunga weighed in on the legal chaos surrounding Raja Jackson’s arrest in his latest YouTube video. “After 26 days, Raja Jackson has finally been arrested,” Otunga said. “Wow, 26 days. My question is, what took law enforcement so long to finally arrest Raja? I can only imagine they were caught up over the wrestling definitions, trying to figure out what’s a work versus what’s a shoot, what was planned, what wasn’t, what went too far.”

According to Otunga, in wrestling, the line between scripted performance and real-life violence can be razor-thin. However, the assault on Army veteran Syko Stu was clearly outside the bounds of any planned performance. Consequently, the attack quickly drew fire toward the streaming platform and wrestling academy KnockX, which faced backlash for failing to control the situation. As a result, the fallout was severe.
Stu suffered multiple fractures, including a broken orbital bone, while Douglas Malo, the wrestler who first stepped in to stop Raja Jackson, publicly slammed the WWE-affiliated promotion for its slow response. “They should have known from that first slam that this was not a show. This had already moved on from being a show, and somehow that individual was allowed to land twenty-three punches before Doug here was able to intervene. Not one f***ing person did anything.” Although other wrestlers eventually joined the effort, the delayed ringside intervention only added fuel to the fire. In the wake of the incident, WWE cut all ties with KnockX.

What charge was Raja arrested on?
Stuart Smith is now recovering at home after a week-long hospital stay following a shocking attack by Raja Jackson earlier this month. The incident unfolded during a wrestling match when Jackson, son of former UFC light heavyweight champion Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson, body-slammed Smith to the mat before landing repeated punches to his head while he lay motionless. Rampage Jackson said he was “deeply concerned” in the wake of his son’s actions.

Did the LAPD drop the ball by taking 26 days to arrest Raja Jackson?
Have an interesting take?
As the LAPD wrapped up its investigation, it emerged that Syko Stu does not wish to press charges. Still, video footage of the attack was clear enough for authorities to take action. With Smith now on the mend, the burning question among fans and the MMA community remained: “On what charge was Raja Jackson arrested?”

Legal analyst and former WWE star David Otunga weighed in on the case in a YouTube video: “I know this attack is heinous and terrible to look at, and you might think right off it’s attempted murder. However, it’s not. I made an entire video explaining why this attack doesn’t meet the elements of attempted murder, and I’ll link to that in the description….either way, the charge was not attempted murder. Raja Jackson has been charged with battery causing serious bodily injury, a felony.”
Now, with the courts taking over, fans and the MMA community are watching closely, hoping the judicial process delivers the justice Stuart Smith deserves — and learning a hard lesson about the blurred lines between scripted wrestling and real-life violence
