What an eventful World Championship it was for Team USA! Sure, the shock of Sha’Carri Richardson’s and Noah Lyles’ 100m upset and Cole Hocker’s disqualification in the 1500m may have stung. Still, when you step back and look at the bigger picture, the American contingent delivered a masterpiece, like a symphony conducted by Mozart himself. Team USA closed out its Tokyo campaign with a staggering 16 gold medals. Sounds impressive already? Well, here’s the twist: this isn’t just a national record, it’s an international one. Surprised? Let’s break it down, and you’ll see why the world is buzzing.

Ryan Crouser set the tone on 13 September 2025, dominating the shot put with a colossal 22.34m throw, proving once again that he is the best in the world. From there, it was a cascade of gold and silver for Team USA. From field events to sprints, and culminating in the relays, yes, the relays!—Team USA delivered spectacularly. The men’s 4x100m relay team, who had struggled earlier in the year, silenced all doubters by clinching gold, joining the women’s team at the top of the podium. By the end of the championship, Team USA proudly amassed 26 medals: 16 gold, 5 silver, and 5 bronze.

On day nine of the World Athletics Championships, Team USA racked up multiple medals, pushing their total to an astonishing 26, firmly atop the standings and cementing their status as the world’s premier track and field powerhouse. Which record did they shatter? The previous U.S. high of 14 golds, set in 2005, 2007, and 2019, now seems a distant memory after this historic feat.

The undeniable showstoppers of the tournament were Team USA’s squads, with both the men’s and women’s teams dominating the relays, clinching gold in the men’s and women’s 4x100m, as well as the women’s 4x400m. The men’s team consisting of  Christian Coleman, Kenny Bednarek, Courtney Lindsey, and Noah Lyles stunned everyone by clinching the gold, making sure that they remain at the top. The road was never easy, but it was achievable.

Team USA domination in the relay on the last day

Remember what happened at the Paris Olympics? Despite having all the star runners like Christian Coleman, Kyree King, Kenny Bednarek, and Fred Kerley, the team was disqualified from the event after a botched exchange between Coleman and Bednarek. The sorrow never left them this year as well; they were defeated by South Africa back in the World Athletics Relays held in Guangzhou, China. It could be said that no one was expecting much from the 4x100m men’s relay team, but Coleman, Bednarek, Lindsey, and Lyles had some other plans.

What’s your perspective on:

Did Team USA just redefine dominance in track and field with their record-breaking medal haul?

Have an interesting take?

Christian Coleman set the tone for the U.S. men’s 4x100m squad, leading off the 10th American quartet to claim World Championship gold. His blistering start handed Kenny Bednarek a comfortable cushion. He surged past the field, smoothly passing the baton to Courtney Lindsey on the final turn. Lindsey delivered the fastest leg of the race, giving Noah Lyles, the 200m gold medalist earlier in the week, a clear path to the finish.

There are few who can challenge the 200m World Champion in the relay race, unchallenged with everything. The athlete ran the last lap to claim the gold for Team USA, breaking all of the criticism and the doubts. With their performance, they helped Team USA get ahead of everyone else at the event breaking the 20 year old record and again showing that they are the top track and field team for now.
