Three months ago, Sha’Carri Richardson and Christian Coleman’s rather public fight at the Seattle-Tacoma airport became one of the highlights of their relationship. Until then, the two were one of the power couples of the track & field community. But with solo posts, apologies, and major social media drama following that July 27 incident, things are turning out to be more hopeful, and just as loud.
On Sunday, at the Tokyo World Athletics Championships, Coleman led his 4x100m relay team in the first leg with 10.30 seconds as USA swept the gold in 37.29 seconds. As the American sprinter celebrated the win amidst multiple losses this year, he posted some clicks from the event with a simple yet telling caption, “🥇.” But what really caught everyone’s attention was one like – Sha’Carri Richardson’s. A fan quickly quipped about the slight hint about their relationship as they wrote, “Lol ok ShaCarri we liking photos again🤣😂 go team USA!”
This wasn’t the first light public display of affection from these two. Right after winning the gold, the 60m world record holder was seen skipping towards the sideline, through everyone else standing there, and directly to Richardson waiting for him. The two exchanged a swift hug and that was enough to throw their followers into a spiral of them amending things once again. Then, in the photos, Coleman was sitting right underneath where Richardson was standing. And seemingly, the joyous occasion is not just the two trying to repair their personal lives but also their on-track records.

On the women’s 4x100m relay side which happened right before the men’s, Richardson closed the final leg with 10.08 seconds to bring USA a gold. The team of Melissa Jefferson-Wooden, Twanisha Terry, and Kayla White and Richardson anchored the top spot with 41.75s. Now while the two are trying to get back on track, literally, their followers are not forgetting the drama the two have shared over the months this year.

In February, Richardson unfollowed Coleman on Instagram just before Valentine’s Day. She fueled the speculation further by posting stories captioned “Solo” and another referencing Beyoncé’s “Me, Myself and I.” However, within a few hours, they were following each other again, and things appeared to be back to normal.
They went public when Richardson shared Instagram photos with Coleman as they attended Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans. But on June 10, Sha’Carri reposted a quote on Instagram that read: “Even when you trust someone, keep somethings to yourself.” Her caption? “My therapist told me this yesterday!” Fans immediately read it as a subtle hint that something might be off between the couple.
But just a few days later, Sha’Carri shared a Instagram story of a frog encounter in her backyard, with Coleman beside her. Their playful banter, with Coleman refusing to touch the frog as Sha’Carri held it, showed that off-camera, their relationship was still exciting and lively. The chain of posts didn’t end there. On June 21, Sha’Carri posted lyrics from Cardi B’s Outside, a song about ending a relationship: “Yes Ma’am!!!!!!” In a following story, she posed in all black with another lyric screenshot: “I been cuffed up too long, let me remind **** (Yeah).”

Fans debated whether these posts hinted at a new chapter in her personal life or were just another round of social-media drama. Then, on July 5, Sha’Carri shared a photo from the Prefontaine Classic press conference with a heartfelt caption for Coleman: “Having a partner that not only do what you do but also understands is a feeling that is worth more than gold.” The post seemed to shut down the rumors, reaffirming the strength of their bond.
Yet shortly after, the widely reported Seattle airport incident happened for which Richardson was temporarily detained for allegedly pushing and hitting her boyfriend. However, Richardson made sure her apology was just as loud. Now, it seems like them returning to their normal is also going to be just as loud as well.
