The SI Women’s Games, debuting in Fall 2025, is a new biennial all-star competition by Sports Illustrated and Scripps Sports, featuring 120+ elite female athletes. These athletes are supposed to compete in a Team America vs. Team World format across six days in sports like basketball, gymnastics, tennis, volleyball, flag football, and combat sports. The Grand Slam champion, Sloane Stephens, further raised the hype when she stated, “I’m so excited to be a part of this special initiative and see how the inaugural Sports Illustrated Women’s Games will bring together some of the most talented female athletes in the world. Sports Illustrated has always celebrated women’s sports and I’m proud to play a role in continuing to help drive the mission forward.” Moreover, the big guns in these events also had a say in this matter.
SI Women’s Games receives exceptional hype from partners and leaders
The Editor in Chief of Sports Illustrated, Steve Cannella, claimed, “The SI Women’s Games are a groundbreaking opportunity to do what we have always done at Sports Illustrated. This is an exciting new way for us to tell the best stories in sports. We can’t wait to watch these incredible athletes compete in California and celebrate everything they do, both on and off the field.” It’s a unique opportunity for women to showcase their skills as the tournament offers a platform for talented athletes.

It’s not just groundbreaking. Team Americas vs. Team World battle is something that has the potential to boom beyond expectations. And for that, SI partnered with Scripps Sports for multiple years. The plan was to put ION on the exclusive US broadcast home of the SI Women’s Games. The president of Scripps Sports, Brian Lawlor, said, “We’re proud to partner with Sports Illustrated, one of the most iconic brands in sports, to showcase and bring the compelling and exciting stories, athletes and events of the SI Women’s Games to every American household. This is another milestone for Scripps Sports and ION as a premier destination for the best in women’s sports.”
Another reason for the rise in hype was the rumor that Simone Biles might make a return at the event. But there’s no confirmation regarding her appearance for the event. As of now, we can only wait and watch the story unfold. But do let us know what you think of the postponement of such a hyped event.
