The Dallas Cowboys have stumbled out of the gate in 2025, far from the start they hoped for. If not for the close victory, 40-37, against the New York Giants, the Cowboys would still have been sitting winless through three weeks of football. The team, already coping with their 1-2 scoreboard, has another issue to deal with entering week 4 of the season. This time, there is doubt about CeeDee Lamb playing the upcoming games.

Cowboys’ star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb was seen exiting the game against the Chicago Bears in the first quarter. The reason for his exit? A sprained ankle. Although he made a comeback in the second quarter, he was soon ruled out for the remainder of the game during the second half. With Lamb injured, doubts about the offense are already spreading like wildfire. But it looks like Cowboys’ owner Jerry Jones is already counting on a player to step into the boots of Lamb.

Today, Jerry Jones appeared on 105.3 The Fan and addressed Lamb’s injury while also admitting that George Pickens needs to step up. “Lamb is quite a challenge, especially playing this Green Bay team, an outstanding Green Bay team. So, Lamb is going to present quite a challenge for us and gonna have guys like Pickens those guys step up for us,” Jones said.

The Cowboys got Pickens from the Pittsburgh Steelers through a trade. Although Pickens has already made some good plays for the Cowboys’ offense, now the team will be looking forward to using him as their WR1 in an important stretch. In the last three games, Pickens has caught 13 passes on 22 targets for 166 yards. On top of that, Pickens also made an exceptional one-handed catch in the game against the Chicago Bears, which the Cowboys ultimately ended up losing.

Now with Lamb injured, the decision of getting Pickens on the roster looks like a master stroke from Jerry Jones. Fans shouldn’t be surprised to see Pickens taking on bigger roles and taking over more targets with Lamb recovering.

Latest updates on Lamb’s injury and recovery

CeeDee Lamb is feeling optimistic about his recovery from the injury. As he informed the reporters, “Once I started feeling much better and then I started getting strength back in my ankle as far as mobility and being able to cut and like real dynamic movements, I was ready to go back out there, but [the medical staff] told me no.”

Although Lamb feels he is healthy enough to join the next game, the Cowboys’ doctor doesn’t agree with him. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Lamb is expected to miss a few games before he joins the team.

The Cowboys haven’t yet cleared their status on putting Lamb on the Injury Reserve, as they want to keep the hopes of him returning to the gridiron alive. When asked about moving Lamb to IR, Jerry said, “We’re looking at that. We’ll watch it in a few more days. We don’t have to decide right now.”

With Lamb missing a couple of weeks, Pickens will be in the spotlight. Not only Jerry, but even the fans will expect him to deliver in Lamb’s absence. Let’s see how he handles the pressure against the Green Bay Packers at AT&T Stadium.
