September 17, 2025, must have been a cursed date for South Carolina Gamecocks fans. Last week on this fateful day, reports confirmed that their former quarterback, Connor Shaw, collapsed while coaching his son. He was immediately rushed to an emergency health unit. But since then, the fans might be having sleepless nights.

Finally, a week later, Connor and his wife Molly, who is pregnant at the moment, posted a couple of pictures on Instagram with an update. The caption read, “Eternally grateful.” No matter how many stops he made at the NFL with the Cleveland Browns and Chicago Bears, the love he has received from the college football fans has been immense. Getting the latest update, the fans can now let out a big sigh of relief as they pour in their prayers.

The first picture shows Connor, in his hospital robe, standing with all the medical apparatus attached to himself, definitely looking like he is going through a lot of pain. Yet Connor had put up a smile on his face. The reason behind his strength and happiness? The woman beside him. Molly is seen holding Connor’s hands while posing for the camera, smiling. In the next picture, Connor’s daughter, Mila, is seen with their son, Decker, on her lap.

In the post, there is a clip of how their son, who is still in junior school, is the next quarterback in the making, running with the ball during football practice. Maybe all these pushed Connor through his recovery journey after encountering a health setback, out of the blue. He collapsed while coaching part of the Simpsonville Recreation Department in Simpsonville, South Carolina. Connor was given CPR at the scene and transported to the hospital. Even though he was stable, he had been admitted to the ICU.

Connor, who turned 34 on Friday, September 19, was released from the hospital on Saturday, Sept. 20, as reported by The State. On Sept. 21, Molly posted a selfie in which she is seen hugging Connor, as the former quarterback is spotted lying in a hospital bed. The caption read, “Many things I am thankful for this evening, none more than this.”

The mother of two, who is on her way to welcome her third child, has been married to Connor since 2014. Having a quick scroll through the former quarterback’s profile proves how much he is attached to his wife and kids. Now that they are happy, Connor’s bigger family, his fans, are praying for better days.

Fans flood Connor Shaw’s recovery updates with love

Connor’s South Carolina chapter was short, from 2011 to 2013. But even within this short period, he has reached great heights. So much so, he is widely regarded as the greatest quarterback in program history. Upon his recovery update, a fan showed his support, stating that the whole Gamecock nation is beside Connor in this fight. The fan wrote, “love you 14, me and the rest of gamecock nation are praying for you🤙🙏 Going by the Gamecocks’ history, Connor holds the record for most wins by a Gamecocks quarterback.

Connor’s IG profile is filled with the quarterback’s best captured moments with his family. He is either catching picturesque sunsets with his kids or still keeping the spark alive with Molly, and posing happily on the beach. Making the quarterback count his blessings, a fan wrote, “You have the best, strongest, most gorgeous wife, the sweetest kids, and an army of prayer warriors. What a life! I’m so grateful that you get to live it. Sending love to all of you as you recover.” They know that a fighter spirit like Connor, who was elected to the South Carolina Athletics Hall of Fame in 2021, will come back stronger.

Connor led USC to three consecutive 11-win seasons, including a 17-0 record at its home Williams-Brice Stadium. Remembering the golden times, a fan dropped in his prayer, “Hoping for a speedy recovery!! You’re awesome!” It’s the same Connor who threw for 6,074 yards, 56 touchdowns, and 16 interceptions.

Unlike college football, Connor did not get the initial breakthrough in the NFL and went off as an undrafted free agent in 2014. But his luck favored and he fought back, climbing the ladder gradually. A fan thus dropped an emoji denoting the GOAT (Greatest Of All Time), “🐐.” Connor joined the Browns as an undrafted free agent in 2014 and was elevated from the practice squad after injuries to Johnny Manziel and Brian Hoyer.

Former South Carolina coach Joe Connolly came with some kind words, “Love you brother🙌🙌🙌🙌.” Connolly now coaches for the Arizona State Sun Devils, yet through his message, he wants to rekindle the fighting spirit within Connor Shaw, who, after wrapping up his playing career, spent three games as the Gamecocks’ QB coach in 2020 before moving into player development and football relations in 2021. Cheers to growing joy, good health, and happiness for the soon-to-be family of five.
