I just watched her dance, and I said, ‘I’ve got to get to know that woman.” These were words Lakers legend Magic Johnson told himself, over four decades ago, when he first laid eyes on his future wife, Earleatha Kelly, a.k.a. Cookie. And he did just that, as the NBA icon who was in college back then asked her for her number, and the two immediately hit it off. Since then, they’ve gone from college sweethearts to a married couple. Although they’ve gone through several ups and downs, most prominently during Magic’s HIV diagnosis in 1991, when Cookie was reportedly even brought to the extent of worrying about her both her and her unborn child’s lives.

While that did greatly test the couple’s relationship, both stood firm and continued to be the rock in each other’s lives. So much so that now 34 years have passed since the two tied the knot in an intimate ceremony that took place in Lansing, Michigan, the five-time NBA champion’s hometown. As expected, this special occasion called for a celebration of the couple’s incredible journey, and Johnson made sure that Cookie knew just how special a place she holds in the former NBA superstar’s heart.

He did so by posting a wholesome video of himself and Cookie, which featured pictures from their younger days and also a few special moments they’ve shared over the past few years. The two were seen attending what seemed like a Lakers game, with clips from various dates from past years. One photo even looked to be back from Magic’s own playing days. The pictures, haphazardly arranged, undoubtedly showed the immense journey the couple have had.

To top it off, he added Al Green’s song ‘Let’s Stay Together‘, which added an extra layer of emotion to Johnson’s message. However, while all of this was already quite special, it was the loving note he attached to the video that struck a chord with everyone. The Purple & Gold icon penned a heartfelt message dedicated to his better half on this special day.

To my forever love on our anniversary, Here we are in year 34 of our marriage, and we still love to have fun, laugh, travel, and we have had an amazing journey through life together,” Johnson captioned the clip. “When I look into your eyes, I am reminded of all of our moments spent around the world creating countless memories that we share. I am as in love with you today as I was on the day we shared our vows,” he added as he went on to express his unconditional love for his wife.

However, this beautiful message is just a small part of the long yet loving message he sent his wife on their 34th wedding anniversary, as he concluded his statement with a wonderful wish. “May we continue keep God first in our life and in our marriage as well as live, love and grow together forever. Happy Anniversary!” The former Lakers guard wished for him and Cookie to keep growing together before ending the note with a celebration text.

While the Johnson couple might be enjoying a celebration for themselves this Sunday, their last weekend was not any less fun.
