There’s no doubt that Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry is one of the most confident players in the league; after all, only the four-time NBA champion can celebrate a three-pointer, even before the ball reaches the basket. However, he wasn’t always like this. On the contrary, he struggled with self-doubt and comparison growing up, as he has revealed in his newest book ‘Shot Ready’. So, how did the Dubs superstar deal with these issues and rise above them to become the charismatic player he is today?
Well, while Curry learned a lot of lessons on his own, someone who really helped him overcome this tough phase in life was none other than his mom, Sonya Curry. It’s no secret that Curry’s mother is a huge influence in her son’s life, given that she helped him through the early days of his hoops career. In fact, the 37-year-old credited his mom for instilling that confidence in him while he was young during his chat with TODAY while promoting his new book, that released on 9th September.
“Yeah, for sure. And she was the ultimate storyteller and educator when I was growing up and gave me that confidence and instilled that that that spirit in me.” Curry said in the interview. “But to the point of this book, like being ‘shot ready’ is about being ready for your moment. It’s not just a sports mentality. It’s for a young kid who’s maybe going through a hard time to to kind of see the best in themselves. It’s for an executive going into a big pitch meeting or being able to lock in on that moment.”

The NBA icon not only sent a strong message complimenting his mother, but he also explained how his recent book could inspire millions of kids across the world. It’s safe to say that Curry’s rise to the top of the basketball world has already helped several children with hoop dreams, given the number of adversities he had to go through. However, through his new book, the point guard is adamant about helping more kids, regardless of whether they want to play basketball or do something else in their lives. However, this is just the beginning.

Golden State star Stephen Curry inks a three-book deal with One World
While the fans are buzzing with excitement, seeing Curry’s ‘Shot Ready’ hit bookstores across the world, this is just the first of the three books Stephen Curry is going to drop in the near future. This comes after the veteran inked a three-book deal with One World in March 2025. “I want to use my story to connect with people of different backgrounds and help them solve the puzzle of their own potential,” Curry said in his statement after signing the deal.

“This book is a celebration of the work that happens in the shadows, the creativity that fuels every move, and the mindfulness that keeps me grounded. I hope ‘Shot Ready’ inspires readers to embrace their own journey, trust the process, and always find joy in the pursuit of excellence.” he further stated. It’s safe to say that this is Stephen Curry’s way of not just narrating his story but also connecting with his fans. The former Davidson standout’s book will be published in partnership with Unanimous Media, which he co-founded with Erick Peyton.

With ‘Shot Ready’ already on the market, fans will be eagerly waiting for the Golden State Warriors guard’s next book to hit the shelves. While that’s exciting news, this isn’t Curry’s first stint in the books world, as he has already launched three children’s books partnering up with Penguin Workshop. The books were ‘I Have a Superpower,’ ‘I Am Extraordinary,’ and ‘Sports Superheroes Volume 1: Stephen Curry.’ Nonetheless, all of these books only catered to children, unlike the new and upcoming ones that can be enjoyed by a wide range of audiences.
