Stephen Curry’s date nights with wife Ayesha rarely stay low profile, and their latest one wasn’t an exception. The couple showed up for a special occasion at Chase Center, where the Warriors usually dazzle with deep threes. This time, however, it wasn’t basketball that the spectators were here for.

The night had a buzz, with tennis fans packing the arena to watch 22-year-old phenom Carlos Alcaraz, the reigning US Open Champion, looking to continue his dominance as he came into the matchup riding a 13-game win streak. Alcaraz was expected to put on a show, and Curry’s presence was supposed to bring good luck.

A longtime tennis enthusiast, Stephen Curry has frequently attended the US Open, including this year’s men’s singles final in New York between Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, which Alcaraz ended up winning. This time, he even took part in kicking things off.

Curry and Roger Federer, a 20-time Grand Slam champion, performed the coin toss. And the moment they both walked onto the court, the sell-out crowd erupted with perhaps its loudest cheer of the night. As Alcaraz and Fritz posed for a pre-match photo with the two icons, their teammates and captains rushed onto the court to join in, with Andre Agassi showing particular excitement.

And then Curry went back to the stands to watch the game alongside Ayesha. Posts from the Chase Center Instagram account shared some moments from their time, showing the two reacting animatedly to on-court play. Their smiles and cheers went viral, just a reminder that the Currys remain a force that can catch attention even if they’re not the main attraction.

But what seemed to initially look like a showcase for Alcaraz turned into a surprising upset, with America’s top-ranked Taylor Fritz showing out. Fritz flipped the script, surprising Alcaraz with tempo and precision, and shocking the arena with a 6-3, 6-2 demolition of the favorite, registering his first career win against Alcaraz. The Currys’ lively date night suddenly doubled as a front-row seat to one of the most unexpected twists in tennis.

But that’s not where the crossover ends. Alcaraz had also cited Curry as an inspiration in an earlier round of the US Open, saying, “I’ve watched Steph Curry play in real life… I’m trying to do the same things as he’s doing in the basketball court, but it is difficult. Probably same games, same feelings that we try to put joy on games.”

However, while the Laver Cup was a night of lighthearted sports and spectacle for the couple, Stephen Curry recently navigated a more intense public moment off the court.
