Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James has discovered a new interest this offseason, and surprisingly, it isn’t nearly basketball. At 40, the four-time NBA champion has been spending every spare moment on the golf course, rain or shine, trying to match the skills of fellow stars like Steph Curry and Austin Reaves. He even posted a story captioned “For the love of the game,” not about hoops, but about his growing obsession with golf. For now, though, LeBron stands alone. He only member of the James family taking swings on the fairway, but ‘James Jr.’ Bronny feels otherwise.

That’s because LeBron’s son, Lakers sophomore guard Bronny James, has also taken to the sport. The 22-year-old is gearing up for his golfing debut on YouTube alongside popular golf creator Grant Horvat in a much-anticipated video that recently teased fans with a short preview. In the clip, Bronny unleashes a smooth swing that left Horvat stunned, prompting him to ask, “You’ve been playing for four months?” Bronny’s calm reply—“Yes”—only added to the buzz, fueling excitement for the full release.

There’s no denying it was a clean swing, and the internet quickly took notice. The clip went viral, with outlets like ESPN and SportsCenter amplifying the buzz. It wasn’t long before it reached Bronny’s biggest fan—his dad. LeBron James chimed in with a proud three-word reaction to his son’s form: “That boy smooth!! 🏌🏾🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥” The post only added to the hype, as fans marveled at how polished Bronny looked despite only picking up the game four months ago. But did James Jr. really pick the golf swing just 4 months ago?

While Bronny’s swing is undeniably impressive, the timeline he shared doesn’t quite add up. Fans were quick to point out the discrepancy on a lighter note, with many openly accusing the young guard of stretching the truth. So, is Bronny James lying? The answer depends on how he defines his “first experience” with the sport.

If casual swings on vacation or a few outings at TopGolf are included, then it’s clear Bronny may have fudged the numbers to make his rise seem even more remarkable (pun intended). Bronny’s timeline simply doesn’t hold up under scrutiny. Early golfing stories featuring him date back as far as 2018, which makes it clear he’s been swinging clubs for more than just “four months.” However, suppose we’re distinguishing between a casual hobby and a consistent, offseason commitment. In that case, the four-month claim starts to make sense, since it lines up with him and his father regularly playing this summer. Still, the real answer may only become clear once the full video drops.

In the meantime, Bronny’s father seems to have taken his golfing addiction to the next level, after having sessions in pouring rain and also just before the Hall of Fame ceremony.

Unpleasant weather failed to keep LeBron James away from golf

Los Angeles Lakers superstar and NBA icon, LeBron James, is one of the most competitive hoopers out there, but his competitive spirit isn’t just limited to the hardwood. Just last week, the twenty-one-time NBA All-Star was spotted golfing in heavy rain on the greens. However, despite being drenched, the Akron Hammer seemed to be completely unbothered and fully consumed in the sport. He even took to social media to make a subtle brag about his recent round.

Can you stand the RAIN!!” He captioned the post in which James can be seen swinging his club in the downpour. While it’s great to see that the 40-year-old has found a new passion in golf, this isn’t the only incident that has left the fans stunned. Not too long ago, LeBron James was also spotted visiting the GreatHorse, a private golf club in Hampden, Massachusetts. The kicker? It was just hours before he was about to become one of only two active NBA players to be inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Bronny James really a golf prodigy, or is there more to his 'four-month' claim?

So, it’s safe to say that the Lakers’ No. 23 has found a new way to spend his free time, as he seems to be having a great time enjoying golf. Not just that, through this, he’s also cracked the code for spending more time with his loved ones, as he’s often seen playing a round with Bronny James or sometimes even his friends. Having said that, given how strong James’s love for the sport seems to be growing, it wouldn’t be a surprise if he decides to become an amateur golfer once he’s all set and done in the NBA.

However, that’s something for the future, as he and the Lakers will now set eyes on the upcoming season where they aim to take home the championship.
