The New York Yankees had a million reasons to come back better than ever against the Texas Rangers. After all, they had just met with a brutal sweep in Miami. They had a chance to silence the growing unrest and flush out the mounting errors. But instead, what unfolded on Monday night was a familiar collapse. They saw a 3-0 lead slip before blowing another 5-4 lead with one out in the ninth inning. Eventually, the Bombers were handed another 8-5 extra-inning loss.
Devin Williams blew a save for the second consecutive outing, and for the third time this season. To top it all off, this time he surrendered yet another home run, adding to the Rangers’ lead. Let’s not forget the Yankees have recently added two new relievers for late-inning crises—David Bednar and Camilo Doval.
However, Boone has remained firm in his support of Williams, saying, “We have really good guys down there, Devin included. We gotta be able to close out these games. He’s been through some tough moments already this season, and we gotta bounce back from it.”

When the Yankees won three out of four games against the Tampa Bay Rays some time ago, it did feel like they would continue that momentum. However, after a meltdown against the Marlins, the Bronx faithful lost their trust in the club. The one taking the most heat is none other than Boone.
“There’s no time. Another one’s coming for us tomorrow, and we gotta figure this stuff out,” he said following Monday’s loss to the Rangers. “I know everyone feels like crap, but we gotta go take it. Haven’t been able to do that on this road trip so far, but we gotta do better,” Boone added. When asked if this ongoing slump has taken a toll on the players, he immediately responded with a firm “yes.”
It makes sense given the consecutive losses the team has suffered. However, for now, it’s not the players who are under the harsh scrutiny; it’s the manager, Boone.
Yankees’ fans demand to fire Aaron Boone
For some time now, Yankees manager has been preaching patience and assuring the Yankees’ nation that the team will find its footing again. However, that “soon” is starting to look far-fetched as the season speeds by. Now, he might be able to hear all the noise coming from the Bronx and beyond, from the fans who are done watching this team fall apart.
What’s your perspective on:
Is Aaron Boone the worst manager in Yankees history, or is he just a scapegoat for bigger issues?

Amidst the uproar, a fan noted a collective reaction that many have been feeling: “Cashman needs to move on from Boone before they’re both shown the door.” The club has lost 13 of its last 21 games. While GM Brian Cashman may have made the most of the trade deadline, he and Boone haven’t been able to halt the team’s losing streak. Naturally, both are now taking heat for the Yankees’ ongoing slump that could lead to their fallout from the playoff race.
Safe to say that in no time, the “#fireboone” will be trending. “#fireboone he needs to go! We have been cooked 🍳 for a longgggg time! Byeee!” Clearly, after watching the team start the season with high spirits and end up piling up losses, fans feel like they’ve been cooked. However, Boone is firm on his stance. He says that the pressure the team is feeling doesn’t really matter. Instead, he’s focusing on finding a way to get the job done and start winning again. “Yes, [this stretch of play is weighing on the players]. Doesn’t matter though… Weigh on us, stress; we gotta win. Period,” he said.

Another fan noted, “Bro, get rid of this dude; he doesn’t even have coaching experienceeeeeeeeee.” Boone took over the managerial role with the Yankees back in December 2017. Before that, he had no prior managing or coaching experience. Before becoming the Yankees’ manager, he worked as an analyst for ESPN. The Yankees organization believed in his baseball pedigree and interpersonal skills. Clearly, the fanbase has been unhappy for a while now.

Then, the fans recalled the entire managerial history of the Yankees. “Worst manager in Yankee history. Just a complete joke.” Boone happens to be the 33rd manager of the Yankees. Before that, the organization was led by many greats, such as Casey Stengel, Joe Torre, and Joe McCarthy, who are considered the Yankees’ best managers, in that order.
There were others who believed Boone shouldn’t be a scapegoat; instead, it’s the higher authority that should be answerable. “All you morons are gonna be in for a crazy reality check when you realize the next manager they hire is an exact clone of Boone. The problem is the head of the operation, Cashman and Hal.” Owner Hal Steinbrenner and GM Brian Cashman are also criticized for their approach. After all, nearly a week into August, the Yankees are still winless.
