Carlos Alcaraz may have a close bond with childhood idol Rafael Nadal, but the six-time major winner is also a huge admirer of Swiss Maestro Roger Federer. While fans are aware of how much the 22-year-old adores Nadal for his inspirational career, it’s a rarity to see Alcaraz share the same space with Federer. The very first instance of Alcaraz and Federer sharing the court happened six years ago. At the 2019 Wimbledon, the 20-time slam winner practiced with the then 16-year-old Alcaraz. But guess what? Seems like the Spaniard once again got the opportunity to share an arena with Federer.
Before the commencement of 2025 Laver Cup in San Francisco, all the players and former icons involved in the event recently spotted at a golf course. Interestingly, Alcaraz and Federer were seen together sharing a wholesome moment. Not to mention the heartwarming message from the 44-year-old Swiss ATP legend to the 22-year-old star. “Welcome to Laver Cup 2025, @carlitosalcarazz — nice work on the golf course. Hope you packed your tennis rackets 👊🏼”, read the post dated September 17.
Remember how last season, Alcaraz revealed that he drew a lot of inspiration from Federer for many of his shots. During the 2024 Laver Cup, fans got to witness them together – although briefly. Back then, the Spaniard admitted, “I think one of the first tennis players who brought these kind of shots, making the impossible possible, was Roger,” reported Tennis365 last October. “I watched him many, many times, his matches. He hit shots, unbelievable shots.” Well, thanks to Laver Cup – again – the tennis legend and the rising star have reunited – with a touch of golf.

Interestingly, the picture shared by Federer is bound to become iconic with time. Such is its magnetism that fans on social media have been completely smitten. So much so, that they have coined a special term for Alcaraz and Federer, invoking a rare emotion.

Fans draw father-son parallels while admiring Carlos Alcaraz and Roger Federer
One fan tried to describe the ‘Alcaraz-Federer crossover’ saying, “Two legends in a picture. Like a father son moment. So happy to see this!” while another person echoed this sentiment by observing, “Carlos looks at him like “thanks, dad”
Another individual couldn’t think of a better emotion to express their appreciation for the tennis GOAT and the Spanish star. “Father-Son energy”, they simply wrote. When Alcaraz made his Laver Cup debut last season, he couldn’t help but express his happiness of playing in front of Federer. “For me it’s great. I will try to be ready for that time, try to put a show, to put a good point on the match just to make him enjoy watching the match.” He further added, “I didn’t meet him yet here and during the tournaments, but I would love to see him and talk a little bit with him and yeah, I’ll be ready to make him enjoy the match.”

One fan couldn’t resist but make a special wish. “We NEED a Fedcaraz exhibition match” When Federer announced earlier this year that he would return to the court for exhibitions, some experts believed that he would pick Alcaraz as his partner. At least that way, fans would have watched them play together.
What’s your perspective on:
Does the Alcaraz-Federer bond remind you of a father-son duo, or is it just fan fantasy?
Have an interesting take?
Unfortunately, it seems we will have to wait for such an update. It’s been confirmed that Federer’s first exhibition appearance will take place in Shanghai on October 10. The match will be held inside the Qizhong Stadium. But there was no mention of Alcaraz. Instead, the 20-time slam winner is set to play alongside actor Wu Lei in this celebrity doubles extravaganza. They will step on the court against the pair of martial arts legend Donnie Yen, and former world No. 3 doubles pro Zheng Jie.
