When and where will the 2025 Laver Cup take place?

The countdown has officially begun for the 2025 Laver Cup, one of tennis’ most electrifying spectacles, where Team World will take on Team Europe. The Laver Cup is a three-day team competition where six men’s players from Europe compete against six players from the rest of the world. The venue changes every year. For example:

YearPlace
2017Prague, Czechia
2018Chicago, USA
2019Geneva, Switzerland
2021Boston, USA
2022London, United Kingdom
2023Vancouver, Canada
2024Berlin, Germany

This year, the tournament will run from 19 September (Friday) to 21 September (Sunday) at the Chase Center in San Francisco, California. Talking about the venue, hosting its first Laver Cup—and the first on the West Coast of the United States—San Francisco’s Chase Center opened in 2019, fully privately financed as the glistening new home of the seven-time NBA champion Golden State Warriors. Talking about the venue in particular, Tony Godsick, Laver Cup chairman and TEAM8 CEO, said, “Chase Center is the perfect setting to stage the eighth edition of the event in a cosmopolitan city that loves its sport but has been without a top-level men’s pro tennis event for over 10 years.”

Format of the Laver Cup

The event consists of five sessions played over three days. All players will be required to play at least one singles match on the first two days, and they will be limited to competing in no more than two individual matches throughout the competition. The first team to win 13 points (out of a total of 24 points) wins the tournament, and if the score is tied after 12 matches, a final doubles match is played to determine the winner.

In the doubles category, pairs can’t be repeated until the decisive point, if necessary. Matches are best of three sets, and in case of a 1-1 tie, it will be decided by a 10-point super tiebreak. The matches on Day 1 are worth one point each, while the matches on Day 2 are worth two points each, and on Sunday, i.e., Day 3, it will be worth three points.

What’s your perspective on:

Can Team World break Europe's dominance, or will Alcaraz and Zverev lead another European triumph?

What is the schedule for the Laver Cup?

There will be daytime and nighttime sessions each day. The daytime session starts at 1:00 pm local time, while the nighttime session starts at 7:00 pm. This schedule applies on Friday and Saturday, while on Sunday, the day starts at 12:00 pm local time, and matches proceed based on the overall team score.

Who all will be in action in this edition?

A pair of all-time greats are the team captains this year. American legend Andre Agassi (8-time Grand Slam champion and former world number one) will lead Team World, while Yannick Noah (former world number 3 and the last Frenchman to win Roland Garros) will lead Team Europe. Even the vice captains for this edition are extremely accomplished, too. Pat Rafter (former world number one and two-time major champion) will be the vice captain for Team World. While the six-time Grand Slam semifinalist and former world number 4, Tim Henman, will be the vice captain on the opposite side.

Which team is the favorite in this edition?

The ‘Swiss Maestro,’ Roger Federer, is one of the founders of the Laver Cup, and, according to him, Team Europe is the favorite this year. In a recent interview, he stated, “I think Europe is probably the favorite—mainly because of Alcaraz and [Alexander] Zverev on the team. Especially Alcaraz – he’s playing tennis on another level, honestly. I always enjoy watching Carlos—he’s a real treat to watch.” Federer thinks that Europe probably has a stronger team this year, but there’s one particular player whom he wants to keep a close eye on this year from Team World.
